Week 8 Waiver Targets
Fantasy Football Waiver Adds To Consider
By: Tony Kneepkens (@tonytk44)
These are the top players to consider adding from waivers this week. Unless otherwise noted, all players below are available in greater than 50% of Yahoo leagues (as of Sunday evening).
Week 8 teams on bye: None
QB Streaming Special
Tua Tagovailoa, MIA, Week 8 vs AZ
Mike wrote this spot up well in Sunday’s “Early Waiver Adds”. Remember that in some leagues you might have been able to stash Tua on your IR spot already and could’ve saved your waiver priority or FAAB this week if you need a streamer.
Low-priority add. Tua returns to a Miami lineup full of playmakers and in a great matchup home against the Cardinals. He’s a great streaming option in single-QB formats.
5% or less of FAAB.
RB Pickups
Ray Davis, BUF, Week 8 at SEA
Davis filled in admirably for starter James Cook in Week 6, racking up 152 scrimmage yards. Last week, Davis led the Bills in rushing again with a 5/41/1 line even after Cook’s return to the lineup.
Medium-priority add. Davis is a talented backup RB on a good offense. He’s shown enough ability that he could continue to carve out a bigger role, but worst case, he’s another RB with a huge contingent upside to stash on our benches.
10 - 20% of FAAB.
Kendre Miller, NO, Week 8 at LAC
Miller, the Saints 2023 third-round pick, made his season debut last week and led the team with 36 rushing yards in their blowout loss at home against the Broncos. He also caught two of three targets for a single receiving yard.
Medium-priority add. Miller is a 22-year-old RB with draft pedigree on a 2-5 football team. With no byes to cover for this week, I like adding him to stash and see if he can continue to carve out a role in the Saints’ backfield alongside Alvin Kamara in a tough game at the Chargers.
5 - 15% of FAAB.
Some additional lower-priority RB adds to consider:
Trey Benson (AZ) - The talented rookie RB has been effective spelling starter James Conner. High contingent upside.
Jaylen Warren (PIT) - Has dropped below 50% rostered, had season highs in carries (12) and rushing yards (44) last week.
Tyler Goodson (IND) - Has outplayed Trey Sermon as they’ve combined to fill in for injured teammate Jonathan Taylor.
WR Pickups
Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall, SF, Week 8 vs DAL
49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk has been ruled out for the season with a knee injury. Jennings missed last week’s game with a hip injury. Pearsall finally made his season debut for SF last week after being shot in an offseason robbery attempt.
Deebo Samuel is reportedly hospitalized with pneumonia at the moment without a timetable to return.
Medium-to-high priority adds. Jennings has three games this season with 10+ PPR points, including his 46-point explosion Week 3. Pearsall is a rookie WR with first-round draft pedigree. Between the two, I prefer Jennings for his track record and existing role in the offense, but Pearsall is a high-upside addition as well in Aiyuk’s (and potentially Deebo’s) absence.
Jennings 20 - 40% of FAAB; Pearsall 10 - 30% of FAAB.
Romeo Doubs, GB, Week 8 at JAX
Doubs has back-to-back fantasy starter performances (4/49/2 and 8/94/0) after returning from the one-week suspension he served in Week 5.
Low-to-medium priority add. With no teams on bye this week, Doubs might not feel like a needed waiver add, but he continues to have one of the strongest floors of the readily available fantasy WRs due to his nearly every-snap role in the explosive GB offense.
5 - 15% of FAAB.
Keon Coleman, BUF, Week 8 at SEA
Coleman tied his career best with four catches and set a new best with 125 receiving yards in the Bills’ easy win over the Titans last week.
Low-to-medium priority add. While it's exciting that Coleman is starting to show the talent that made him a high second-round draft pick in April, we have to remember that the Bills will likely feature their newly acquired Pro Bowl WR, Amari Cooper, more and more in the coming weeks and continuing to feature their talented TEs and their diverse running game.
10% or less of FAAB.
Some additional lower-priority WR adds to consider:
Jalen McMillan (TB) - Bucs star WR Mike Evans left MNF with a hamstring injury and his status is TBD.
Tutu Atwell (LAR) - Leads the Rams in catches and receiving yards this year. Four straight games with 4+ catches and 50+ yards. Rams’ star WR Cooper Kupp is expected back in the lineup this week.
Jerry Jeudy, Elijah Moore, and Cedric Tillman (CLE) - All are available in the majority of Yahoo leagues. Tillman had the best game of the three last week (8/81) while catching passes from three different QBs.
Mason Tipton (NO) - Led the depleted Saints pass catchers with nine targets last week. Caught six passes for 45 scoreless yards. An option for deeper PPR formats.
TE Pickups
Hunter Henry, NE, Week 8 vs NYJ
Henry has performed like a fantasy starter at a rough TE position this year and has a very fantasy-friendly 11/133/1, statline over rookie QB Drake Maye’s first two starts.
Medium-priority add. Henry has two of his three best games this season with Maye at the helm and seems as likely (and capable) as anyone on this version of the Pats to emerge as Maye’s top target earner.
5 - 15% of FAAB.
Jonnu Smith, MIA, Week 8 vs AZ
Jonnu had one of the best fantasy scores for a TE of the season with his 7/96/1 line last week. Tua is expected back from IR this week and should help bring some life back to a struggling Dolphins offense.
Low-priority add. Any TE with a ceiling like Jonnu just showed is worth monitoring, but there are a lot of other mouths to feed in Miami. Jonnu is a fine bench stash to see if he remains productive after Tua's return.
5% or less of FAAB.
Some additional lower-priority TE adds to consider:
Zach Ertz (WAS) - Coming off of a solid 4/40/1 game in a blowout win against the Panthers.
Tyler Conklin (NYJ) - Four more catches, including a TD, last week.
DEFENSE (Top pickups for Week 8)
Chargers (vs Saints)
Texans (vs Colts)
Packers (at Jaguars)
