Week 6 Waiver Targets

Fantasy Football Waiver Adds To Consider

By: Tony Kneepkens (@tonytk44)

These are the top players to consider adding from waivers this week. Unless otherwise noted, all players below are available in greater than 50% of Yahoo leagues (as of Sunday evening). Priorities and FAAB recommendations are meant to differentiate between some of the options available and are assuming 12-team, single-QB, fantasy formats.

Another Cardinals’ RB gets billing as a high-priority waiver add this week along with some other strong RB options to consider. Beyond RB, there are some solid TE pickups and even some priority D/ST options to consider, but it’s not the best week to find help at QB or especially at WR, based on widely available options.

Week 6 teams on bye: Texans, Vikings

QB Streamer of the Week

Bryce Young, CAR, Week 6 vs DAL

  • Bryce passed for 198 yards and a pair of TDs in Carolina’s win over the Dolphins last week. The offense didn’t have much more to do with backup RB Rico Dowdle going nuts for 234 scrimmage yards.

  • Low-to-medium priority add. Young is a fine streaming option this week against a generous Dallas defense that has allowed some monstrous passing production to opposing QBs already this year, including: Fields 283-2, Love 337-3, Caleb 298-4, and Russell Wilson 450-3.

  • 5% or less of FAAB.

Some additional lower-priority QBs to consider ::

  • Michael Penix Jr. (ATL) - Penix had his best game of the year before Atlanta’s Week 5 bye. Now the well-rested Falcons head to Buffalo as an underdog on Monday night in a high-implied-point-total game (48.5).

  • Jaxson Dart (NYG) - Dart has struggled a bit as a passer but continues to score fantasy points on the ground and has 50+ rushing yards in each of his two starts. I don’t like his matchup against the Eagles this week, but I like him as a bench stash for future weeks to see if he can find more passing success as the season progresses.

RB Pickups

Michael Carter, AZ, Week 6 at IND

  • Carter handled the bulk of Arizona’s RB work with 18 of 26 RB carries and five of six RB targets after Trey Benson was placed on IR the week prior. Carter had 73 scrimmage yards and a goal-line TD, while fellow RBs Bam Knight (24 scrimmage yards and a TD) and Emari Demercado (81 rushing yards and a crippling fumble) were much less involved.

  • High-priority add. I was most concerned with Carter being limited to early-down rushing work, which wasn’t an issue with him catching all five of his targets in Week 5. While this week’s matchup at Indy is admittedly tougher than hosting the Titans, Carter’s role last week was strong enough that he can be added and plugged into lineups right away to cover for bye weeks or injuries.

  • 20 - 40% of FAAB.

Hassan Haskins, LAC, Week 6 at MIA

  • Chargers’ rookie RB Omarion Hampton suffered an ankle injury late in Sunday’s loss and has been placed in short-term IR. Haskins had already been the RB to occasionally spell Hampton and was the next man up in the LAC backfield after the rookie’s injury. Second-year RB Kimani Vidal mixed in for a few touches of his own, most of which came at the very end of the game with Justin Herbert and some other starters having been removed.

  • Medium-to-high priority add. I considered a second high-priority RB recommendation this week but I stopped a little bit short of that just based on having seen the Cardinals’ RB usage for an entire game and only seeing the Chargers for part of a quarter, while trailing. I would assume Haskins is afforded a lead RB role this week at Miami, but it’s possible Vidal or another RB sees a larger role after a week to prepare a fresh gameplan.

  • 15 - 30% of FAAB.

Kendre Miller, NOS, Week 6 vs NE

  • Miller led the Saints in carries (10) and rushing yards (41) in last week’s win over the Giants and added a catch for eight yards. The third-year back is seeing an ascending role for the fast-paced Saints offense (touch counts of 5 // 6 // 9 // 11 // 11 through five weeks).

  • Medium-priority add. Veteran legend Alvin Kamara is still the preferred RB for the Saints, but Miller has very obviously been cutting into his workload, especially on the ground. Miller should be rostered in all formats for his combination of an existing role and his contingent upside backing up a veteran RB.

  • 10 - 20% of FAAB.

Some additional lower-priority RB adds to consider ::

  • Brian Robinson Jr. (SF) - He’s just dipped below 50% owned but is on the short list of the top RB handcuffs in all of fantasy backing up CMC. He’s a great bench stash if you can add him.

  • Tyler Allgeier (ATL) - Another one of the top handcuff RBs in fantasy is widely available coming off of Atlanta’s bye week.

  • Kimani Vidal (LAC) - As mentioned above, Vidal is likely the new injury-away RB to be aware of for the Chargers while Hampton recovers on IR.

  • Isaiah Davis (NYJ) - Davis is the primary backup to Breece Hall after Braelon Allen was placed on IR. He handled four touches for 33 yards in last week’s loss to Dallas.

  • Kenneth Gainwell (PIT) - Last time we saw Kenny, he was racking up 134 scrimmage yards and a pair of TDs overseas. Now, he’s past his bye and worthy of a bench stash to see if his big previous game might mean more work even after starter Jaylen Warren returns from injury.

WR Pickups

Romeo Doubs, GB, Week 6 vs CIN (51% rostered)

  • The headline at WR is that I don’t think it’s a very strong week for pickups at the position. I’ll bend the rules and mention Doubs, who is fresh off of his bye week and caught three TDs last time we saw him play.

  • Medium-priority add. Doubs has had two usable PPR weeks, a dud, and his three-TD blow-up through four games. He’s playing a ton of snaps for a Packers team taking some deep shots downfield and can provide fantasy managers with bye-week coverage and as a spot starter moving forward.

  • 10 - 20% of FAAB.

Troy Franklin, DEN, Week 6 vs NYJ (in London)

  • Franklin has only topped 50 yards once in three games since his breakout 8-89-1 game in Week 2 but remains second to veteran WR teammate Courtland Sutton in catches and yards for Denver this season.

  • Low-to-medium priority add. Franklin is a reasonable option to add if you need someone to play in Week 6. The Broncos head to London to face a Jets defense that just gave four passing TDs to a Cowboys team playing without superstar WR CeeDee Lamb last week.

  • 10% or less of FAAB.

Ryan Flournoy, DAL, Week 6 at CAR

  • Flournoy missed out on scoring in Dak’s four-TD game last week but did enjoy a breakout 6-114 game on a team-high nine targets with his WR teammates Lamb and KaVontae Turpin sitting out with injuries. The second-year pro had just 35 receiving yards on the season and 137 for his career heading into last week’s game.

  • Low-priority add. Even if Flournoy has officially passed Jalen Tolbert (no catches, one target) on the depth chart, which is no guarantee, he will still be playing fourth WR fiddle to Lamb, George Pickens (2-57-1), and Turpin when everyone returns to the lineup. No need to break the bank, ideally, add him from FA.

  • 3% or less of FAAB.

Some additional lower-priority WR adds to consider ::

  • Malik Washington (MIA) - My top WR waiver recommendation from last week tied a season high with five targets and caught four of them for, checks notes, zero receiving yards. He’s now caught 12 of 20 targets for just 47 yards this season (he also has 8-60 rushing on the year). I still like holding him to see how the post-Tyreek Phins offense shakes out.

  • Darnell Mooney (ATL) - Mooney has been rusty coming off of his shoulder injury and struggling with drops while failing to top 44 yards in a game, but I still like him as a potential spot starter now that ATL is past its bye week.

  • Luther Burden III (CHI) - Had two catches and minus-4 yards in Week 4 after his 101-yard breakout in Week 3. I still like adding and holding the talented rookie to see how his role progresses throughout the season.

  • Tre Harris (LAC) - Harris has been the Chargers’ fourth WR and has just 3-45 receiving on the year, but I like him as a bench stash backing up one of the stronger three-WR sets in the league from a role/target-share standpoint. He’d have a chance for a meaningful fantasy role if any of the three WRs ahead of him  missed a game.

TE Pickups

Mason Taylor, NYJ, Week 6 vs DEN (in London)

  • Taylor, a rookie second-round pick, led the Jets with a dozen Week 5 targets and set personal bests with nine catches and 67 yards. Justin Fields looked to Taylor or his star WR Garrett Wilson on 48% of his passes in their loss to the Cowboys.

  • Low-to-medium priority add. Taylor is my favorite widely available TE pickup heading into Week 6 based on his ascending role for the 0-5 Jets. The team has no reason not to continue to put more on the rookie’s plate as the season progresses.

  • 10% or less of FAAB.

Theo Johnson, NYG, Week 6 vs PHI

  • Theo caught six of seven targets for 33 yards and a pair of TDs in Week 5. He has a 9-50-3 receiving line over the last two weeks in Dart’s first two career starts, showing budding chemistry with his young signal-caller, especially in the red zone.

  • Low-to-medium priority add. The Giants aren’t the best offense through which to be chasing TDs, but Theo seems to have caught the eye of his young QB and should have a shot to be one of Dart’s top receiving options overall this season.

  • 5% or less of FAAB.

Some additional lower-priority TE adds to consider ::

  • Evan Engram (DEN) - The veteran TE is splitting snaps with multiple other Denver TEs but went 4-33-1 last week and now has four catches in back to back games.

  • Cade Otton (TB) - Was second on the team in targets (five), catches (four), and receiving yards (81) in Tampa’s exciting comeback victory in Week 5.

  • Brenton Strange (JAX) - Full-time player who continues to lead the Jaguars in catches and receiving yards on the year.

  • Harold Fannin Jr. (CLE) - Caught his first career TD from fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel in Week 5. Leads the Browns with 21 receptions on the year.

DEFENSE (Top pickups for Week 6)

Packers (home vs Bengals)

  • The Packers have a nice schedule coming out of their bye (home CIN, at AZ, at PIT, home CAR) and I believe they’re very much worth some FAAB dollars this week if you’re looking to upgrade the position.

  • Medium-priority add.

  • 5 - 15% of FAAB

Raiders (home vs Titans)

  • Targeting the Titans offense, available in nearly every league.

  • Low-priority add.

  • 3% or less of FAAB

Other D/ST options for Week 6:

  • Patriots (at Saints)

  • Saints (home vs Patriots)
