We'll open a few more of these throughout the season as these pools dwindle, but we thought it would be really fun to bring the community together on something like this.

 Games to Target: Week 1

Green Bay Packers @ Philadelphia Eagles

  • This game is being played in Sao Paulo, Brazil

  • Projected total: 49

  • Line: Eagles -3

  • Weather: Warm and overcast, possible low air quality

  • The projected line on this game feels lazy – “home” team favored by 3.

  • Jordan Love comes into the year with momentum (playoff win) and money (new contract), and he also welcomes new RB Josh Jacobs and has the fantasy community’s favorite 4-WR room (Watson, Doubs, Reed, Wicks).

  • Eagles have a new OC (Kellen Moore) and DC (Vic Fangio) and lost Jason Kelce, but they otherwise return most of their offensive players. They should find themselves in a good amount of shootouts this season with more talent on their roster on the offensive side than the defensive side.

  • There should be plenty of points here. Talented offenses going against defenses led by new coordinators on both sides that should take some time to gel this season.

Houston Texans @ Indianapolis Colts

  • Projected total: 49

  • Line: Texans -2.5

  • Weather: Dome

  • Expectations are high for the C.J. Stroud-led Texans. They retained OC Bobby Slowik and HC Demeco Ryans will continue to call defensive plays. The additions of Stefon Diggs and Joe Mixon combined with WR Tank Dell returning from injury should lead to more success on offense (averaged 22.5 points per game last season).

  • For the Colts, dual-threat dynamo Anthony Richardson returns to form possibly the most dangerous rushing combination in the league alongside RB Jonathan Taylor. They added WR Adonai Mitchell in the draft, but WR Josh Downs should miss this game.

  • The Texans proved to be a well-coached team under this new regime and with a new QB last season, and they should move the ball well in this one. The Colts’ response should drive the outcome of this game, as this is a great test for Richardson to see if he can play exciting, mistake-free football. If he can do that, this game has a lot of potential with the creative Slowik and Colts HC Shane Steichen calling plays.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Miami Dolphins

  • Projected total: 50

  • Line: Dolphins -3

  • Weather: Warm and clear

  • Any game the Dolphins play, especially at home in the Florida heat, has the possibility of hitting the over. They are likely still the fastest team in the league with Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, De’Von Achane, and Raheem Mostert.

  • The good news for the game environment here is the addition of WR Brian Thomas Jr. for the Jaguars, who clocked the second-fastest 40-yard dash time at this year’s NFL Combine. Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne Jr., Christian Kirk, and Evan Engram provide plenty of other firepower for Jacksonville in a game they should stay aggressive in to keep up.

  • Miami’s defense could be the biggest factor in this game. They have a new DC in Anthony Weaver, who comes over from Baltimore, and lost stud DT Christian Wilkins to the Raiders this offseason. They will also be without OLB Bradley Chubb and possibly EDGE Jaelan Phillips as they recover from season-ending injuries suffered last season. There is potential for this defense, but expecting early-season issues seems appropriate.

Los Angeles Rams @ Detroit Lions

  • Projected total: 51

  • Line: Lions -3.5

  • Weather: Dome

  • A rematch from a thriller in last season’s Wild Card round, the Rams and Lions bring plenty of offensive talent and cohesion into this game. The most notable changes in personnel from that game are the Rams losing DT Aaron Donald to retirement and DC Raheem Morris to the Falcons, while the Lions surprisingly retained OC Ben Johnson, who was expected to take a head coaching job.

  • The Lions won last year’s playoff matchup, 24-23, with Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff combining to throw for 644 yards and three touchdowns.

  • With the Lions adding DT D.J. Reader and CB Terrion Arnold, their defense should be improved, but that could be offset with the Rams’ Cooper Kupp being fully healthy.

  • The Rams defense has some new faces and the loss of Donald can’t be understated. Detroit should have no problem scoring points through their usual core (Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta, Jahmyr Gibbs, David Montgomery) and it’s likely Rams HC Sean McVay will turn to a pass-heavy gameplan from there. Can WRs Kupp and Puka Nacua produce enough to match Detroit on the scoreboard? The Vegas total thinks so.
