Draft Guide: WR Tiers and Evals

By: Mike Johnson (X: @mjohnson_86 -- Discord: @MJohnson86)
Tier 1 TEs – "The Studs"

These tight ends are all supremely talented and have the potential to provide a positional advantage from both a weekly and season-long perspective based on their skill sets, roles, and offenses.

  • Brock Bowers, LV

    • Bowers set records as a rookie and was especially dominant as the season went on. He is clearly the alpha in this passing attack and should have improved QB play this season.

  • Trey McBride, ARI

    • McBride has shown he is a top-end talent at the TE position the last two seasons. He is a target hog who is due for touchdown regression and a strong bet for 100 receptions if he stays healthy.

  • George Kittle, SF

    • Kittle is a step below Bowers and McBride, but very clearly above the next group of tight ends. He has shown the ability to single-handedly win weeks, and the 49ers wide receivers have a lot of questions entering 2025.

Tier 2 TEs – “It Wouldn’t Shock You…”

This tier consists of talented tight ends on good-to-great offenses who should be critical parts of their team’s game plans. It wouldn’t be shocking for any of these guys to emerge from this season as a top-five tight end – but it will take a bit more going their way than the first group.

  • Sam LaPorta, DET

    • LaPorta took a step back in 2024 from his TE1 rookie season, but he rallied late in the year for a TE8 finish even in a “disappointing” season. This year, his ADP has dropped accordingly, and he is a rock solid tight-end option in the sixth or seventh round.

  • T.J. Hockenson, MIN

    • Over a year removed from his 2023 ACL tear, Hockenson has a chance to reemerge among the elite at the position. He will benefit early in the season from the absence of Jordan Addison and could be a target hog for first year starting QB J.J. McCarthy.

  • Mark Andrews, BAL

    • Andrews struggled early in 2024 as he took time to return to form after an ugly broken leg in 2023. However, he still finished with 11 receiving touchdowns, and he plays in one of the league’s best offenses. He should also benefit from Isaiah Likely potentially missing time early in the year.

  • Travis Kelce, KC

    • Turning 36 years old in October and dealing with his stiffest target competition in years, Kelce is more volatile as a weekly starter now than we have seen in nearly a decade. I expect a hot start for him in 2025 as Rashee Rice will be suspended for the first six games and Kelce will be the healthiest and freshest at that point. He is someone I would recommend drafting, then trying to trade when his value spikes.

  • Evan Engram, DEN

    • Engram dealt with injuries last season, but he has been showered with praise by his new coaching staff and gives the Broncos the every-down tight end and middle-of-the-field weapon they lacked in 2024. Engram has been a top-five tight end in two of the last three seasons.

  • David Njoku, CLE

    • We have seen elite production from him in the past and both Joe Flacco and Shedeur Sanders seem to fit well with his role and skill set. The Browns’ offense has a lot of questions, but Njoku has a massive weekly ceiling.
