Early Waiver Adds

Scoop These Guys Before Lock

By: Mike Johnson (@Mjohnson86)

The theme of this article is, “Work smarter, not harder.” Every week we will give you the top Waiver Adds in our Tuesday article. However, you can make things a lot easier and less stressful by getting ahead of things with some players and situations. Doing so in a smart way can help you save FAAB or preserve high waiver priority in your league.

Every Sunday I will give you a few players who stand out to me as great potential additions that can give you a leg up on your league mates. Look to add these players if you have players you are willing to drop, who get late-week injuries, or who are ruled out of their games and allow you to move them to an IR spot once they are officially inactive on Sunday morning.

Daniel Jones, QB, NYG

  • The Giants play the Panthers in Germany next Sunday. Jones is only 11% owned in Yahoo leagues and has a developing offense around him with Malik Nabers and Tyrone Tracy Jr. turning into focal points and Darius Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Theo Johnson thriving in complementary roles. The Panthers’ defense has been the worst in the league this year and Bo Nix just had by far his best game of the season against them. Jones is a similar skill-set player with better weapons and is the perfect streaming QB.

Isaac Guerendo, RB, SF

  • Guerendo was a suggested add in this week’s Waivers article, but if he’s still available in your league, he’s worth looking into. The 49ers are on bye this week, so his big Week 8 performance was ignored by many. Jordan Mason’s shoulder injury continues to cause issues and CMC’s status is still unclear, no matter how optimistic they try to be.

Trey Benson, RB, ARI

  • Benson is a talented RB, and while his current usage isn’t great, I think this is a good week to stash him as a potential look-ahead option. The reason for that is Arizona has a Week 11 bye, so if James Conner picks up a minor injury this week there’s a greater chance they would decide to rest him before the bye week and let him come back at full strength in Week 12. Josh Jacobs, Kenneth Walker, Nick Chubb, and Alexander Mattison are all every-week starters at this point who will be on bye next week. If you have one or more of them and depth questions at RB, I think Benson is a nice speculative addition.

Xavier Legette, WR, CAR

  • Legette was drafted just outside the first round in April and has a ton of physical ability. The Panthers are going nowhere this year and developing Legette is one of their primary offensive objectives for what’s left of 2024. Last week against Denver and Patrick Surtain II was a tough matchup in his first game without Diontae Johnson, but this week he gets a Saints defense down two of its top cornerbacks. He’s capable of breaking out this week and being the waiver-wire darling at WR for Week 10.

Chargers Defense

  • Cheating a little bit, as the Chargers are owned in 63% of Yahoo leagues at the moment, but if they are available in your league you should definitely add them now if you can make room on the roster. They face Jameis Winston this week, who we know can throw several INT’s in any given game, and host the Titans’ horrible offense next week.
