Early Waiver Adds

Scoop These Guys Before Lock

By: Mike Johnson (@mjohnson86)

The theme of this article is, “Work smarter, not harder.” Every week we will give you the top Waiver Adds in our Tuesday article. However, you can make things a lot easier and less stressful by getting ahead of things with some players and situations. Doing so in a smart way can help you save FAAB or preserve high waiver priority in your league.

Every Sunday I will give you a few players who stand out to me as great potential additions that can give you a leg up on your league mates. Look to add these players if you have players you are willing to drop, who get late-week injuries, or who are ruled out of their games and allow you to move them to an IR spot once they are officially inactive on Sunday morning.

Geno Smith, QB, SEA

  • Geno faces the Vikings in Week 16, a team who faces the highest pass rate in the NFL and blitzes at a high rate. That game has high scoring potential and Geno’s stronger games this season have usually had some rushing contributions as well, while the Vikings blitz at one of the highest rates in the league, which could have him flushed from the pocket and adding a few points on the ground.

BACKUP RB’S

  • We touched on this last week, but at this point in the season any backup RBs who would step into a huge role on an average-to-great offense with one injury need to be rostered. Also, backup RBs who are young and on poor teams are good fits for those last roster spots. Guys like Tyler Allgeier, Braelon Allen, Trey Benson, Ray Davis, Jaylen Wright, Khalil Herbert, Tyjae Spears, Emanuel Wilson, and Kendre Miller are ALL potential top priority guys to pick up for Week 16. Use your roster spots to give yourself a chance to win next week, depth isn’t as much of an issue now as upside!!

Dyami Brown, WR, WAS

  • The Commanders lost starting WR Noah Brown for the season with a kidney injury and this week will be their first game without him. Dyami Brown should be stepping into that No. 2 WR role for Washington and has an explosive skill set which makes him capable of making big plays after the catch or on downfield routes. Don’t forget that the preseason throw by Jayden Daniels that got everyone excited back in August was to Brown.

Juwan Johnson, TE, NO

  • We talked about Johnson last week and he went out and had a big game with four receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown. This Saints receiving corps isn’t getting any healthier and Johnson faces the Packers on Monday night in Week 16 – a team that ranks 29th in the NFL in DVOA against TEs.

Colts Defense

  • We touched on this last week, but the Colts face Will Levis (Titans) and Tommy DeVito (Giants) during Week 16 and 17. That is about the best possible duo of quarterbacks a team can face. If you have a bye this week or if you are off to a hot start and close to having your matchup locked up, you should pick up the Colts before their kickoff late this afternoon to set yourself up for an advantage at Defense in the Semi-Finals.
