Early Waiver Adds
Scoop These Guys Before Lock
By: Mike Johnson (@Mjohnson86)
The theme of this article is, “Work smarter, not harder.” Every week we will give you the top Waiver Adds in our Tuesday article. However, you can make things a lot easier and less stressful by getting ahead of things with some players and situations. Doing so in a smart way can help you save FAAB or preserve high waiver priority in your league.
Every Sunday I will give you a few players who stand out to me as great potential additions that can give you a leg up on your league mates. Look to add these players if you have players you are willing to drop, who get late-week injuries, or who are ruled out of their games and allow you to move them to an IR spot once they are officially inactive on Sunday morning.
Michael Penix Jr., QB, ATL
Penix is the great unknown and people are always slow to jump on those spots in fantasy, especially at the QB position. But with his draft pedigree, arm talent, and weapons, he could easily smash the Giants in Week 16 and be a top waiver add for Week 17’s championship-round matchup with the Commanders.
BACKUP RBs
Leaving this section here every week, because it is the spot that can change a championship matchup and teams are shutting guys down at this point in the season. Kendre Miller, Patrick Taylor, and, potentially, Tyjae Spears are guys who came out of last week with significantly improved situations. Ray Davis, Jaylen Wright, Tyler Allgeier, Khalil Herbert, and Emanuel Wilson are the top targets this week, but any backup that is one injury away from a featured role fits the bill.
Malik Washington, WR, MIA
Jaylen Waddle will miss this game due to a knee injury and if the Dolphins lose they are eliminated from the playoffs. In that scenario, Miami would likely shut Waddle down for the season and Washington could be a featured part of their offense for a matchup with a Browns secondary that has given up big plays this year.
Brenton Strange, TE, JAX
Strange went OFF last week against the Jets and was targeted 12 times. He is clearly the #2 option on the team behind Brian Thomas Jr. and the type of routes he runs will always allow him to see a good amount of targets. Only 30% owned in Yahoo leagues, Strange is a talented young player seeing a ton of volume. He should be picked up immediately.
Dolphins Defense
If the Dolphins win this week, they are still alive for a playoff spot and will have a matchup next week against the Browns and QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson. DTR has been terrible in his previous starts, and if he continues that this week and the Dolphins win, Miami will be a defense your opponent is targeting for Week 17.
