Early Waiver Adds

Scoop These Guys Before Lock

The theme of this article is, “Work smarter, not harder.” Every week we will give you the top Waiver Adds in our Tuesday article. However, you can make things a lot easier and less stressful by getting ahead of things with some players and situations. Doing so in a smart way can help you save FAAB or preserve high waiver priority in your league.

Every Sunday I will give you a few players who stand out to me as great potential additions that can give you a leg up on your league mates. Look to add these players if you have players you are willing to drop, who get late-week injuries, or who are ruled out of their games and allow you to move them to an IR spot once they are officially inactive on Sunday morning.

Bo Nix, QB, DEN

  • Nix came back down to earth a bit last week against the Ravens, but his day was saved by a fluky receiving touchdown. This week he has another tough matchup against the Chiefs’ defense. Nix has shown rushing upside and has flashed bigger games against weaker defenses. The next two weeks he will face the very generous defenses of the Falcons and Raiders and could have another nice run ahead of him. Rostered in only 33% of Yahoo leagues, Nix could help pick up teams who are having QB issues due to the recent injuries at the position.

Jaylen Warren, RB, PIT

  • Warren was expected to challenge Najee Harris for the lead of this backfield in 2024, but injuries early in the year and a soft schedule that let the Steelers control most games prevented anything like that from happening. Pittsburgh is coming off its bye week, Warren should be the healthiest he has been all year, and their upcoming schedule gets much tougher, especially against the run, which makes it likely that Warren will have a much bigger piece of the RB pie going forward. He’s available in just over 50% of leagues right now, and if he’s on your waiver wire, I’d suggest getting ahead of the possible change in role coming off the bye.

Jordan Mason, RB, SF

  • Everyone is excited about CMC’s return this week and the reports about him are currently glowing. However, the reality is he is an older RB and coming back from chronic Achilles issues in both legs. He might be fine, but he might not. Mason doesn’t hit our usual “50% availability” threshold, but he’s been dropped in almost 30% of Yahoo and ESPN leagues. If he’s out there, you should absolutely get him on your roster before the 49ers take the field this week.

Adonai Mitchell, WR, IND

  • Available in 90% of Yahoo leagues, Mitchell is going to see a big role increase this week with Michael Pittman Jr. out. Pittman has been dealing with a back injury for a month and is finally at the point where he can’t play. Back injuries can be tricky and I wouldn’t be shocked if this is a long absence. Mitchell is a talented rookie who has struggled early in the season, but we see rookie WRs turn the corner in the second half of their first season all the time. Buy now.

Texans Defense

  • The Texans are available in over 60% of Yahoo leagues despite being a very good unit because they face the explosive Lions in Week 10. However, the next two weeks they get the mistake-prone Cowboys without Dak Prescott and then the Titans. They’ll be a top-five defense in Week 11 and 12, so get them now so you don’t have to bid on them or waste high waiver priority on Wednesday.
